In Strata

/poetry + publication design

In strata is a careful and personal consideration of roots, responsible autonomy, and the tactile memory. To create a rich visual environment for this collection of poems about the northern Ontario mining town where I was born, I designed the publication using my father's scanned geology reports and old family photos. The cut-and-paste process of combining these rigid and angular reports with the soft pixelation of old scanned family photos suggests a re-mapping of childhood experiences.

With its minimal layout and typography, a tender loneliness and guarded nostalgia can be felt through the publication.
